NHS Services

Welcome to Orthokind Ltd, a specialist Orthodontic Practice located in York City Centre.

This leaflet contains information about the NHS service we provide and general information about the practice.

The Orthodontic Team

Our NHS contract enables us to offer Orthodontic Treatment for children (aged 18 or under at the start of treatment).

Private treatment is also available, for both adults and children.

Orthodontic Treatment

Orthodontics is a specialised area of dentistry, the purpose of which is to realign teeth to improve appearance and function. Eligibility for NHS treatment is dependent on the severity of the case, which will be assessed at the initial consultation.

If your case is not severe enough to qualify for NHS funding you can proceed with private care.

Appointments NHS

To obtain an initial appointment you need to be referred by your General Dental Practitioner. They will send the referral to the RMS and this will subsequently be sent on to us. There is currently a waiting list for an initial consultation and treatment. However, patients whose clinical need for treatment is urgent will be seen more quickly.

Once you start your treatment you will be able to book your follow-on appointment after each visit.


If you are unable to keep your appointment please give us at least 48 hours’ notice

Opening hours

Monday – Friday 8.30am until 5pm

Emergency Treatment

It is unlikely that you will need any emergency care regarding your orthodontic treatment. If you feel that you do need treatment outside of surgery hours then please contact  your General Dental Practitioner or alternatively call  NHS Direct  on 111

Your rights and responsibilities

You are entitled to:-

  • A thorough examination of your mouth, teeth and gums
  • A full explanation of your treatment options
  • Information about the practice and services available
  • A care and treatment summary if you transfer to another orthodontist
  • Make a complaint if you are not happy with the treatment or care

You are responsible for:-

  • Giving at least 48 hours’ notice if you have to cancel or change an appointment
  • Looking after your orthodontic appliance and following the advice given
  • Treating our staff with courtesy and respect


Your records will remain confidential and secure. However occasionally we may need to release them to NHS England, other health professionals caring for you or the NHS Business Services Authority as part of our ongoing clinical review process. You have the right of access to the data that we hold about you & to receive a copy. Access may be obtained by making a request in writing. We will provide a copy within 40 days of receipt of the request and an explanation of your record should you require it.

Disabled Access

We are located on the first floor, accessed by a staircase. If this is unsuitable for you please ask your General Dental Practitioner to refer you to an alternative orthodontist.
